1. In 1933, President Roosevelt said in his first inaugural address, "First of all, let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself-nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance."

    Great Depression. Roosevelt is trying to say that we shall not fear what we don't know and to the citizens that we will get through the tough times
