Why was the civil rights act of 1964 not enough to cause change the politics of protest?

The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was a huge step forward during the Civil Rights movement. This ended discrimination in the workplace. Now, individuals could not be discriminated against in the application process on the basis of race, color, sex, or national origin. However, this was just one of many rights that blacks in America were fighting for.

This law did not address the constant voting harassment and barriers faced by blacks in American society. This includes the use of poll taxes as a means to limit African-American participation in election. This is why protests continued to move on as they did before this law was signed into place.
