    The contributions of Governor Edmund J. Davis and the Radical Republicans doesn't outweigh the negatives of their time in office because his term in office was controversial.

    Governor Edmund J. Davis became a member of the 1866 Texas Constitutional Convention. He supported the rights of slaves that were freed and also encouraged separation of Texas into diverse Republican-controlled states.

    He was elected to the position of a governor in 1869. Some of the controversy marked in respect of his government were : Fraud, Corruption, disenfranchisement of Texans among others. He also refuse to vacate his office after being defeated in 1873 by Democrat Richard Coke.
