Edward Rutledge was the youngest of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. He was reluctant to support the independence, at first, and prefered a reconciliation. In his understanding, it was not the right time. He thought that slaves with guns could bring bad results. Concerning votes for the independence, he didn't want to vote, but, since the resolution would continue, he asked for the vote to be recast.
