European Feudalism is older in about three centuries in respect to Japan's. Also, the emperor of Japan did not have total control of the aristocracy, it might be concluded that the European system was more centralized. The samurais were under payment of their lord, whereby their european counterparts, in exchange for their wartime contributions and efforts, received lands.
