    The late 1880's saw a change in urban commuting with the appearence of the railroads, and in some cases, such as that of the city of Chicago, with the mechanization of street railways, permiiting commuters to reach their destinations in a faster way, permitting also that some people could live further away from the great conglomerates.

    in the 1800's the train replaced horse drawn carriages and then in 1885 the first car was invented, again changing urban commuting.
