Mahatma Gandhi is the father of Indian independence. Gandhi was a nationalist and independence activist, and also a pacifist. He advocated non-violence and civil desobedience and the main methods to fight against the British colonial rule in India and for Indian independence. He did not resort to violence and brutal actions, as other movements did in the colonial times. His philosophy was based on truth and non-violence.
