The Armenians were Christian Orthodox and the Turks of the Ottoman Empire were Muslims. That was a big part of the conflict since the 15th century. The Genocide of Armenians began on April 24, 1915. After the first assassinations of Armenian people, the Turks arrested and sent them to march in the Mesopotamian Desert without food and water.
