There were several factors that were responsible for the rise of African slavery in the British Colonies such as, sugar plantation (which needed a big labor force), that the indentured servants were not fulfilling the need and were not permanent, and the Atlantic Slave Trade etc.

Settlers brought cane sugar from the British West Indies in America. It is only after the purchase of Louisiana territory from France in 1803, that the Americans began growing sugar cane. As sugar plantation required a huge labor, so the British Colonists began to buy the slaves for the goal. As soon as the Britishers found that people from Africa best serve their requirements they raised their demand for slaves and this resulted in the frequent importation of Slaves from Africa.
