Why would the Abbasids want to have the same currency throughout their empire?

    The Abbasids would have required a common currency given the span of their empire. At their height of power, they built a coalition of Persian mawali, Eastern Arabs, and Shiites. As a result, a common currency could have aided in trade among all these groups
