    After Japan bombed the American military base at Pearl Harbor, the United States declared war on the Japanese empire. Shortly after this, president Franklin D. Roosevelt passed Executive Order 9066. This meant that military had the power to remove citizens from military zones as needed. Essentially, this law allowed the US military to force Japanese Americans out of their homes and into internment camps. These camps were supposed to prevent any spying by Japanese citizens on the US government. This was considered a violation of their constitutional rights, as evident by the US government taking responsibility for this action and acknowledging their wrongdoing under president Reagan during the 1980's.
