Medieval ways of thinking were based on traditional belief.

Francis Bacon was a prominent philosopher, politician, lawyer and English writer, father of philosophical and scientific empiricism. He developed in his De dignitate et augmentis scientiarumn, an empirical theory of knowledge and stated the rules of experimental scientific method in his Novum organum, which made him one of the pioneers of modern scientific thought.
