The Salem witch trials convicted people through subjective judgement. According to the evidences found, most of the accusers were deeply religious farmers from Salem Village. They accused people from Salem Town. The disparity of living conditions and also the Tax burden on Salem village were gripping motivations for the villagers to create false accusations. The people of Salem believed the testimony of the three girls who claimed to have experienced possessions by the devil because it was mentioned numerous times in the bible and also, due to a highly subjective testimony from a girl. The accused were faced with tough decisions on whether to plead guilty and confess other "witches" or plead innocent and face death.
