After marrying John Rolfe in 1616, one of the Englishmen living in the Jamestown Colony, her husband came up with the idea of taking her wife and their baby son, Thomas, to England, to show the success of the English colony in America. Pocahontas earned great admiration in London, and she was even invited to see the king. As the Rolfes were getting ready to come back to Jamestown, Pocahontas became ill with one of the Old World communicable diseases that Native Americans had no immunity for and died shortly after in 1617, at age 21.
