    The voyages led by Dias and de Gama had the following significance:

    Dias was the first to route to the Southern African coast, as opposed to the previous West African trips. de Gama followed up Dias' expedition and followed his route to ensure the journey was real. This route discovery began the the transatlantic slave trade in the 15th century.
