Why were the slaves treated like they were on the ships to the Americans?

    I think the ships were not large enough for all the slaves to be comfortable, so they were crowded. The slaves were thought of as items so their well-being was unimportant to them. The use of slaves was not so they could be treated well, but so they could work themselves to death so feeding them was not a priority.
