What was a direct consequence of the Japanese conquering the Philippines in 1942?

    Japanese took control of the Philippines, initially organized a Council of State and they directed civil affairs until October 1943 in which they declared the Philippines an independent republic. Actually, it was a puppet republic headed by president Jose P. Laurel.
