It is certainly possible to talk about something unique or different about the Southern United States. On the one hand, society is more conservative than in other parts of the country. It places a great deal of importance on family and religion. On the other hand, people in the South have pronounced accents or dialects, very specific to the different states. Likewise, Southern cuisine is highly distinctive, and also they way it is cooked and eaten - some traditional Southern dishes include fried-chicken, fried green tomatoes and cornbread. Furthermore, the South is also well-known for its country music and for its usually nice weather. Finally, some traditions are only unique to the South, such as placing bottles on trees or saying "sir or ma'am."
