I'll give you four important events between the occupation of the Rhineland (1936) and the invasion of Poland (Sep. 1, 1939):

In the spring of 1938, Germany annexed Austria to become part of Germany. Britain's and France's prime ministers signed the Munich Pact with Adolph Hitler on September 30, 1938. The agreement granted Germany permission to annex the Sudentland, a region in Czechoslovakia. Germany then took over all of Czechoslovakia. August 23, 1939, Hitler and Germany signed a non-aggression pact with Joseph Stalin and the USSR. This meant Germany could invade Poland without the risk that the USSR would oppose them there.
