    The cotton gin is a machine for cotton that separates the fibers from the seeds, the cotton gin speeds up this process, taking 10 times less the time a person would spend doing it manually.

    Because of this cotton production became much faster and profitable, so many plantation owners focused in producing this crop reducing then the production of others crops. That also led to the expansion of land usage for cotton production.

    While there was a reduction is slavery workforce in the separation of the cotton there was an increase in demand for workers on the field, planting and harvesting the crop.
