Native American tribes tried to drive out the colonists from their territories with the so-called King's Philip War from 1675 to 1676, fourteen months of attacks. Chief Metacom, the leader of the Pokunoket - also known as King Philip - led his people into the battles and was joined by other tribes such as the Pocumtucks, Nipmuck, and Narragansetts.
