"Developments in transportation, rather than in manufacturing and agriculture, sparked American economic growth in the first half of the 19th century." Assess the validity of this statement.

    This is a completely true statement. Before reliable transportation options such as paved roads in the US, transporting good was extremely time-consuming and wildly expensive. Paved roads and railroads made transportation of goods far cheaper, thus supring the economy.
