In Regents v. Bakke, the Supreme Court struck down the use of racial quotas as a way to reduce inequality in schools or workplaces.

Regents of the University of California v. Bakke was a landmark Supreme Court decision that ruled that while affirmative action programs are sometimes constitutional, racial quotas are a violation of the Fourteenth Amendment and the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
