Over three million Germans lived in this area, and these residents wanted a union with Germany.

The Sudeten Germans made increasingly bold demands from the government. When the demands could not be met they insisted that they were being persecuted. German promised that he would not invade the Czechoslovakia if he was given the Sudetenland.
