Describe the Magna Carta and whose powers were limited by the document?

    It established the rule of law - - that the monarch was not above the law but had to obey it. Also, it established the principle of no taxation without representation which meant that the English monarch needed the consent of parliament to tax the people. The King John was not following the laws at first, he sent people to jail guilty or not, and taxed the church for nothing.
