Which statement best explains why England established colonies in North America? Spain had gained wealth and power from its colonies, and England hoped to do so as well. American Indians were offering to trade with England so they could gain raw materials, such as furs. England was at war with Spain and wanted to attack the Spanish colonies in Central America and the Caribbean. New France had begun to weaken, and England saw an opportunity to secure that territory and its resources.
