How was the policy of paternalism like social darwinism? (1) ?

Paternalism and social Darwinism can be seen as very similar. For one, both of these philosophies refer to a stronger individual/government controlling a weaker individual/government. Social Darwinism is the concept that only the strongest will survive in society (aka "survival of the fittest"). This theory indicates that those who are weak will be taken over by those who are strong. The United States uses this as one way to justify their policy of imperialism during the late 1800's and early 1900's.

Paternalism, on the other hand, refers to a policy where a powerful individual or government controls the citizens by restricting their freedoms. As you can see, in both scenarios there is an emphasis on being the strongest/most fit.
