How did companies like NBC™, whose radio shows were free, make money? Companies bought time from the radio network to run ads for their goods and services. NBC™ was not in business to make a profit. NBC™ sold off radio stations to several new companies, one of which formed ABC™. Corporate sponsors paid for NBC™'s operating expenses for a chance to be featured on the radio.
