    During the times of the 1830s and 1840s, the American people who did not support the use of alcohol, or prohibitionists, were behind the movement. Alcohol cosumption caused men to be abusive towards their wives, and wreaking havoc. A main supporter and contributor to the banning of alcohol was Carrie Nation.
