James Ruse, a Cornish farmer was found gulity of crimes and transported to Australia for 7 years. Whilst there he showed that, with a small amount of land a family could survive and grow their own food a crops - he went on to farm 30 acres of land and began to sell the produce: this was teh first grant of land in New South Wales
Unfortunately his farm was flooded and he was made almost bankrupt - he went on to be a seaman and overseer.
