    President Theodore Roosevelt won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1906 because of his leading role in The Treaty of Portsmouth. He was able to successfully negotiate peace between Japan and Russia and became a significant force in world diplomacy without ever sending military forces to Portsmouth.
