    The most slaves live in Missouri and Texas. In Missouri, as in the various slave states, monetary conditions decided the quantity of slaves in a given region. Since Missouri was to a great extent horticultural, most slaves were utilized in the fruitful base grounds which flanked the Mississippi and Missouri waterways and their tributaries. Without a solitary staple yield, Missouri never grew huge ranches as did the cotton states.
