What best characterizes slavery in the north during the revolutionary era?

    The slavery in the North never reached the same number and intensity of the slavery in the South. The controls and tactics of the slaves were less severe than that of the South, though there were slaves who played key roles in the eve of the revolution at different parts of America. Though in the North, the slave population decreased faster than that of the South.
