Would you say that the American Revolution was a war fought primarily in defense of principles or one largely motivated by the self-interests of the colonists?

    The more dominating side is definitely the self interest side, they wanted cheaper trade, no taxation, and be free to trade with who they want, it was not exactly a breach of principals, they just saw them prospering more without Britain.
