What was the long term impact of the magna carta?

    The main long-term result was a clear enunciation of the principle that even the King had to obey the law. in addition the monarchy was forced to respect the rights of the common man, they could not simply kill someone or throw them in prison by edict anymore. They had to have a fair trial.
