Forcing Southern slaveholders to free enslaved people.

The Emancipation Proclamation was a document delivered by Union President Abraham Lincoln on January 1, 1863. This document decreed that all enslaved peoples in the South will be freed. This caused an influx of African Americans to flee to the North, but many were unemployed and homeless and caused economic problems in the future.
