Why did President Harry S. Truman ask Congress for funds for Greece and Turkey?

    This is otherwise known as the Truman Doctrine which was created to counter the Soviet group during the Cold war. The Congress gave free aid to Greece and Italy to support their economies and military force. They were just among the nations that America supported who were threatened by Soviet communism.
