America became involved in Vietnam in the 1950s. It increased dramatically under president Lyndon Johnson. We got involved in Vietnam do to the fear of the spread of communism and Soviet power. The expierance for many that fought in Vietnam was not good. It was a long and ugly war in a got jungle. The Americans withdrew do to mass protests and public opposition. After we withdrew. the communists took power and are considered the 'winner' of the war.
