The correct answer is C) suffered under brutal regimes of control. After their independence from the French colonial empire, Vietnam and Cambodia still suffered many years after. Cambodia fought Vietnam during the Vietnam war because of Vietnamese settlers in Cambodia. During the Cambodian-Vietnamese war, the Vietnamese communists invaded Cambodia. Afterwards, they overthrew their leader Khmer Rouge.
