How was the African slave trade before European involvement different from the African slave trade after European involvement?

They did not make the Africans slaves before this they just had their belief that African Americans were not good workers, but when they started getting serious about this they decided to start punishing the African Americans because they did not know that all people were created the same way and everyone has different personalities.
