Most great artists have become famous during their lifetimes; it is a popular misconception that they don't normally become famous until after their deaths. Van Gogh was an exception.

Picasso became very famous during his lifetime. He lived a long time and had many, many years in which he was probably the most famous artist in the western world. He was being collected by 1905, by discerning art patrons, when he was still in his 20's.

Pablo Picasso, became one of the greatest and most influential artists of the 20th century and the creator (with Georges Braque) of Cubism.
