The Southern colonies economies were mostly rural and very underdeveloped. Education to them at the time was no where near as important as labor work was and in return people had no education meaning that they were stuck doing the same thing for they're entire life day in day out. It was very religiously diverse due to settlers looking for work in factories and farming.
