It triggered migration to the West. It created a body of prospectors. It also provide a lot of land for agriculture. Cattle then introduced into farms. Cattle was used for food during the Civil War. It also moved a lot of Native Americans out of their homes. Which caused segregation and death for most of the Native Americans.
