What is consent of the governed? Why is this principle important in the American Founding and in Federalist No. 1?

    Consent of the governed is a principle in which the people of the country will only be led by a government that they've chosen themselves, which means they've given their consent. It was important because it meant abandoning the king as a high ruler and establishing a democratic republic.
