He took away Marc Anthony's potency by subjugating both him and Cleopatra in the battle of Actium. Octavian of course set war on Antony but he had eluded back to Egypt with Cleopatra. Both of them committed suicide so they would be captured. Octavian then became Rome's sole rule.
