it allowed transportation from trains and other things that run by engines.

It was basically the first engine not powered by people or living things
it is powered by steam which doesn't get tired and can be put in a small place and is more powerful in small places. the only mantinence is oiling the machine and adding fuel to the fire/combustion bit
