What impact did the populist party have on american politics?

    -third largest political party that the US ever had

    -influenced the Democratic Party/in 1896 endorsed William Jennings Bryan for president

    -if they had won the gold standard would have been replaced with silver

    -Supported public ownership of railroads

    -wanted a ban on corporate welfare

    -we have the income tax because of populist

    -wealthy elites that feared the populist vote creates poll taxes (meaning you had to pay) which kept blacks and poor white farmers from voting (this was the majority of folks who were populists)
