What was the response by northern civilians to lee's invasion

    Most of the civilians panicked. Northern civilians displayed greater measures of fear as opposed to resistance when confronted by enemy soldiers. As a result, Lee's progress through Pennsylvania and Maryland was met with very little civilian resistance. This was dismaying to union soldiers.
