The main goal of assimilation in any nation is to change or convert cultures or peoples to become more like the nation they are joining. Culturally, this could include changing the way they dress or the language they speak. It could mean the adoption of new religious beliefs or political ideologies. It is often brought up when questioning immigration policies. The main goal of assimilation is to make everyone similar, as opposed to preserving and celebrating differences.
