Bill Haley and the Comets' song "Crazy, Man, Crazy," made it to the Billboard charts in 1953.

The more famous anthem of rock 'n roll by Bill Haley and the Comets, "Rock Around the Clock," was released in May of 1954. They also had another hit in 1954 with their version of "Shake, Rattle and Roll."

Let's also not forget that Elvis Presley's first single, "That's All Right," debuted in the summer of 1954.

And many give the honor of "first rock and roll song" to 1951's "Rocket 88," credited to Jackie Brenston and his Delta Cats, which was actually another name for Ike Turner's Kings of Rhythm. (Brenston was the saxophonist in Ike Turner's band and the vocalist on "Rocket 88.") Bill Haley and the Comets also did a cover version of that song.
